The RCMP has arrested two people after a police chase that began in Vermilion and ended south of Fort Saskatchewan.
The chase began around 2:30 PM in Vermilion, after police were called about suspects in a black SUV pointing a gun around. The Alberta detachment, along with the Strathcona County RCMP, Fort Saskatchewan RCMP and Vermillion RCMP set out to find the SUV.
It was located by officers around 3:30 travelling on rural roads. Going off Range Road 542, the vehicle headed southbound on a north lane on Highway 21. During the chase, an RCMP vehicle rolled near Range Road 540. Finally, a second RCMP car was able to stop the suspect vehicle near Range Road 534.
One RCMP officer was taken to the hospital for medical assistance, but no one else was hurt. The officer has since been released after being treated for minor injuries.
As a result of the chase, two people have been arrested and charged by the Strathcona RCMP, who determined the two were also wanted on outstanding warrants.
Michael Patrick Hill, 23, from Onion Lake, has been charged with alleged assault with a weapon, possession of stolen property over and under $5,000, pointing a firearm, dangerous driving and flight from police charges.
Another suspect, a 21-year-old woman also from Onion Lake who’s name has not been released, has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle.
Hill is still in custody following a judicial hearing and will next appear in Sherwood Park Provincial Court on Jan. 27, 2021.
The unnamed woman has been released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in Sherwood Park Provincial Court on Mar. 17, 2021.
