Alberta residents in Lloydminster and area who need to self-isolate in a hotel room are now able to get financial support from the province.
Alberta expanded access to a one-time payment of $625 and a free-of-charge hotel stay to all Albertans. It was previously only available to people in Edmonton and Calgary.
Albertans who are unable to safely self-isolate in their homes will be eligible for a 14 day stay at a hotel upon referral by Alberta Health Services. The office of Municipal Affairs has confirmed all Alberta residents in Lloydminster will be eligible for both the payment and hotel room whether they get a referral from AHS or SHA.
The expansion also includes First Nations individuals living both on and off-reserve as well as people living on Métis Settlements.
“No matter what they earn, what community they live in or what language they speak, all Albertans should be able to isolate safely to protect themselves, their families, and their neighbours from COVID-19,” says Minister of Municipal Affairs Ric McIver. “Reducing the spread means we can get Alberta’s economy back on track while we protect both lives and livelihoods.”
The government says more than 850 Albertans have accessed hotel accommodations for self-isolation purposes since the launch of COVID Care Teams and outreach campaign on December 15.
