Alberta Motor Transport safety conference coming to Lloyd

The Alberta Motor Transport Association is holding a safety conference in Lloydminster next week.

The conference is specifically tailored to bus and truck industries’ workers and will feature 4 keynotes speakers, including retired 24-year veteran RCMP officer, Grant Aune who specializes in vehicle collision reconstruction and speaks to why it’s so important to have proper driver training; and safety expert, Spencer Beach, a burn survivor of a workplace accident who has devoted his life to sharing his story.

This year’s theme is “Safety: a Mindset, Not a Concept.” Executive Director at AMTA, Lorraine Card explained why and how the planning committee settled on that theme, which will be used for the next 3 conferences in the works for this year in central, south, and northern Alberta.

She says, “As a committee we sat around and thought, ‘well what are we going to call this?’ and it’s really about embracing a safety culture and walking the talk. So safety is not just a concept…we all believe in safety. Safety is something you live and breathe everyday so it’s a mindset. It’s a shift in gears and you think safety at every point of contact, whether you’re driving, or whether you’re working in the workplace.”

The event takes place from 8am to 4pm, Wednesday, January 27th at the Lloydminster Agricultural Exhibition. Tickets are $30 each and includes a voucher to use towards an AMTA course, including driver simulator training. Register online at amta.ca, by Friday, January 22nd.
