Alberta Transportation announces 2021 highway construction program

Alberta’s Transportation Minister announced the province’s highway and bridge construction schedule which will see $1.5-billion invested in capital maintenance and renewal projects this year.

The province announced $3 billion will go into their provincial construction program over the next three years for things like fixing potholes, resurfacing roads, bridge repairs, and upgrades to a number of health and education buildings.

Minister Ric McIver says priority is to create thousands of jobs now by fixing bridges and roads so Albertans can travel safer and get goods to market more efficiently.

“Extending the life of infrastructure reduces replacement costs in the future. Budget 2021 makes sure Albertans can continue to be proud of their highways.”

Some of the projects in the Lloydminster and Wainwright areas include:

Highway 16

  • Design plans for a 32 km repaving from Highway 893 to Lloydminster

Highway 17

  • Design plans for intersection improvements between Highway 17 and Township Road 454

Highway 41

  • Design plans for a 19 km repaving between Wainwright and Highway 883
