Lloydminster RCMP conduct new exercise in the community

Lloydminster RCMP has done a new exercise to further crime reduction in the community.

Last week, Officers attended to an identified hot spot in the community and checked 30 vehicles.

“With results we get from running comparative statistics, we’re able to locate certain individuals, as well as areas in town that we call ‘hot spots.’ One thing that we do with these hot spots is we focus our attention and we patrol more. We focus on the activity happening there. So what we’ve done last night, is we took one of those hot spots and we did a little bit of investigating ourselves. We wanted to see what, maybe, it was in this area that made it a larger target,” says Constable Grant Kirzinger with the Lloydminster RCMP.

The findings of the exercise were 2 unlocked vehicles, one with keys in the ignition, 7 visible valuables, 3 wallets, and 1 firearm.

“In the past month and a half, we have seen an increase in break and enters as well as armed robberies. There are reasons why those increases have occurred. I’m very glad to say that we have made several arrests in the last several weeks, and again last night, we made another arrest, in relation to individuals who are conducting these break and enters. So we’re able to solve and lay charges in a lot of these break and enters that we’ve been having,” says Kirzinger.

According to Kirzinger, people can also take measures to help themselves from being victimized, like making sure their vehicles are always locked and removing valuables from their vehicles, or keeping them out of sight.
