The annual spring fundraiser, the Muck Run will not be a go this year due to the restrictions surrounding COVID-19.
Lloydminster and area residents will have to forego the yearly spring crawl in the muck while raising funds for a good cause and will look for other ways to pitch in.
Over the last several years, the Muck Run has raised over $100,000 for healthcare in the community.
CEO of the Lloydminster Region Health Foundation, Malcolm Radke says with the COVID-19 restrictions they decided to cancel it outright as they will look to other options along the lines of the Radiothon they held last Christmas.
“So, we might do something like that again, centred around the radiothon. As for like virtual social distancing activities, we decided not to bother. We tried to do that last year, it was not overly successful and there are a lot of other good causes in town that are trying to do other similar things.”
They will hope for better options next year. Radke points out that lots of events are paused. They will look to digital donations to support the hospital needs and hold off on the big splashy events. Radke says they are looking at grant funding options.
“There’s quite a bit of government grants out there related to COVID or mental health or seniors care. So we are doing a lot more of those types of applications. We are also evaluating a community-wide 50/50, more of a raffle where you just buy tickets.”
Radke expects to have more details on that option in the future.
