Hazardous Waste Roundup on hold until the Fall

With Pitch-In Week up and running, one aspect is not making the cut at this time due to COVID.

The Hazardous Waste Roundup for the second year will have to sit it out. While this is part of the COVID-19 fallout, the City is planning to deal with the build up of hazardous materials in the Fall.

Mayor Gerald Aalbers says he is aware of the situation facing homeowners.

“I encourage people just to be patient. We are planning for a Fall Hazardous Roundup at the City. So that opportunity will be there. We know there’s a lot of waste. It just naturally collects and people are unsure of how to deal with it.”

In calling for the patience of residents, Mayor Aalbers advised on practical considerations for storage while waiting for the Fall Hazardous Waste Roundup.

“When it comes to batteries, things like that, we just hang on to them, put them in a cardboard box, somewhere that they are easy to maintain. Any chemicals things like that [or] paint, just bear with us.”

The Mayor added that the City is challenged in that they can’t go house to house like they do with regular curbside pickup.
