It’s gold, silver and bronze going to Lloydminster Comprehensive High School following the recent Skills Alberta Contest.
Snagging the gold medal in IT Office Software Level Two is John Lecegues. Silver went to Griffin Duchow in Electrical Installation and the bronze medal was copped by Micah May Garcia for IT Office Software Level One.
For taking the top prize, Lecegues has earned a spot on Team Alberta and will represent the province at the virtual Skills Canada Contest from May 25-27, 2021.
Alan Griffith, Skills Alberta Coordinator at Lloyd Comp, says their silver and bronze recipients will be back at it next year.
“The two students who finished silver and bronze, they have a feather in their cap. They’ve medaled in a provincial competition. So they’re finished, but both of them are 11th-grade students, so they will compete again next year. As for the gold medalist, he moves on to the national competitions. He is a member of Team Alberta.”
The school had 13 students overall that participated in the Skills Alberta leg, coming away with credible finishes in their categories.
Griffith acknowledges all the challenges that his students have faced in preparing for the skills showcase.
“I think it’s just awesome to see these kids excel in a year that’s been so difficult for them with all the restrictions we have had in place with regard to the pandemic. So, we are just happy that kids can continue to showcase their passions and their talents in all these different areas.”
Results for the Skills Canada Contest will be announced in June.
