The performing arts like so many other other endeavours had to pivot during the pandemic.
However, the cultural heartbeat of Lloydminster that is the Vic Juba Community Theatre will see the music return tonight.
Board member Gwen Mottram is very excited as Ulmer Cadillac is presenting a livestream of local entertainers from 7:30 Wednesday evening.
” Murray McDonnell, Bill MacArthur, Evan Davis, Connor Sturge, Karen Fawcett, Boni Rish, Kevin Kraft and Sarah Davis. We’re following many COVID-19 protocols for tonight, but it will be so nice to have live music back in our venue.”
Mottram says they are also planning to have a Summer Concert series for the very first time and it will include an outdoor concert in the parking lot.
“We’re dedicating those Summer concerts to health care workers, frontline workers and live event workers. Each of those people will receive a free ticket. The Summer concerts will be a transition period for our patrons, but we will be ensuring that we have small audiences.”
The Summer concerts will run from late July into September. All of the concerts will be livestreamed. Mottram says with physical distancing the Vic Juba can manage between 60-80 patrons. The outside concerts will be by donation running from August 24-26 and accommodating about 160 people in the parking lot.
Mottram says Vic Juba is also running a fundraiser for their multi-purpose space expansion. It’s being done in partnership with the Lloydminster & District Co-op.
“This fundraiser is in support of our multi-purpose space expansion. That’s space that we need right now. We have a wonderful matching donor opportunity until October of this year. We are working really hard to reach our goal before that deadline. Our calendar really starts to get busy in October.”
The fundraiser is called Decadence and Dessert and it’s running just in time for National Cheesecake Day more details on this can be found on their website.
