Onion Lake resident facing charges following weekend accident

Onion Lake RCMP were called into to action early Saturday morning to deal with an incident involving a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle in that community.

About 3:10 am, a man had to be taken to hospital with serious injuries. There is no update on his condition.

RCMP say the driver of a pick-up truck, left the scene on foot. He was later found at a home on the Onion Lake Cree Nation.

Following their investigation, 20-year-old Grayden Cardinal of Onion Lake Cree Nation has been charged with:

– 1 count, impaired operation causing bodily harm, Section 320.14(2), Criminal Code

– 1 count, failure/refusal to comply with demand, accident resulting in bodily harm, Section 320.15(2), Criminal Code.

He is to appear in court on October 20, 2021.

The investigation is ongoing involving Onion Lake RCMP, the Battlefords Provincial General Investigation Section, the Battlefords Forensic Identification Section and the RCMP Collision Reconstruction Unit.
