RBC Foundation pitches in for new ag tech degree at Lakeland College

Some 150 students are in line to benefit over the next five years as Lakeland College, Vermilion rolls out their new ag tech degree program.

The College in making the announcement is crediting a welcome donation from the RBC Foundation of $250,000 to the Leading. Learning. The Lakeland Campaign.

The money will go towards the Innovation Leadership Agriculture course which is part of the new degree program. The course focuses on communication, teamwork and critical thinking skills.

Dean of Agriculture Technology and Applied Research, Josie Van Lent says the donation will help as their students go beyond the classroom to develop their learning experiences and gain the technical and leadership skills they need in the ag world.

Lakeland’s president and CEO, Dr. Alice Wainwright-Stewart sees the benefits of the donation translating over time from the Student-Managed Farm – Powered by New Holland to the regional agriculture industry and economy.

RBC vice president, Alberta North, Jason McEvoy says partnering with Lakeland College fits well with their goals to support young people.

Lakeland College’s Bachelor of Agriculture Technology program launches this Fall at the Agriculture Technology Centre, Vermilion.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
