New G3 grain elevator glistens Vermilion sky

Since May of this year, G3 Canada’s new grain elevator in Vermilion has been receiving grain from area producers.

Construction started in 2020 and is part of the loop-to-loop system where trains load in continuous motion.

G3 says the system reduces the time by 40-50 per cent to move grain from the Prairies to the Vancouver terminal and back.

Owner of Canola Farms in Vermilion area Shawn Jacula has already taken in about 18 loads of grain from last year’s crop to the new facility.

“As far as having a state of the art facility here in Vermilion; it’s such a nice option for us to have a grain buyer that allows us to get in and out efficiently. Being able to unload a full Super B of any commodity in a quick time period is an important part of the operation to be able to stay efficient.”

G3 says they are providing farmers with more options to move grain to market saving them time and money as they can off load a Super B truck in less than five minutes.

G3 is also getting involved in the community through the Canadian Agricultural Safety Association’s BeGrainSafe program. They recently donated grain rescue equipment to the Vermilion Fire Department.

Jacula sees the overall involvement as important to the Ag community and the Vermilion region.

“It’s a huge boost to the town of Vermilion and the County of Vermilion River as well. Just having the facility there and from the outside looking in; it’s extremely efficient from taking a sample in to get it tested, to the grain buyer. All the different levels there.”

The new grain elevator has a 42,000 tonne capacity. It is one of two new elevators that G3 has opened on the Prairies this year, the other being in Swift Current.
