Don’t be surprised to see volunteers collecting bags of food items this Saturday in Lloydminster.
The annual Food Drive for the Salvation Army is Saturday September 25th. Residents are being invited to fill a collection bag with their food donations and leave it out for pick-up from 10 a.m.
Event coordinator Richard Bennett says residents can expect volunteers from groups like the Lloydminster Youth Council, the Lions, Knights of Columbus, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and others to be collecting the bags which are being distributed to households to fill over the next few days.
Bennett shared about the need as he looked to community generosity to pitch in.
“This year, the need for food is as great as ever, with people that have lost their jobs or do not have the same income that they would have normally, and that is being supplemented with the food provided by the Salvation Army.”
Bennett noted for some 14 years the Food Drive has become a staple in the community and the cause is even more important with the challenges being experienced over the last 18 months.
He added some households may have already gotten the bags which are yellow or white and have the instructions printed on the side. These bags are being delivered to homes until Friday. Bennett invites residents to fill the bags and leave them out on Saturday for collection.
“Once the bags are full, just put the bag out on the doorstep to be seen by the road. The volunteers will then come around to pick-up the bags with the food in it and deliver directly to the Salvation Army.”
Collection is expected to run this Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon in the Border City.
