Saskatchewan expands eligibilty for COVID-19 vaccine booster program

The Saskatchewan Health Authority is expanding who can access COVID-19 vaccine booster shots.

When the program was opened in September, boosters were available for long-term and personal care home residents and certain immuno-compromised populations eligible.

Starting October 4th, Phase Two of the program will open it up to residents over 80 if they’re six months from their last dose.

It will also be open to other immunocompromised and clinically extremely vulnerable individuals, including those with auto-immune diseases, and those who received chemotherapy or radiation therapy in the past six months.

Those people will be eligible 28 days from their last dose and will receive a letter from the Ministry of Health or their physician with instructions on how to receive the booster.

The province also notes that if someone has already received a 3rd dose, they do not need more. Three doses will add ample increased protection.

With online booking not yet available for 3rd doses, people eligible for booster shots are encouraged to visit a pharmacy or pop-up clinic opportunity listed on the SHA website.

The province plans to announce more eligible populations in the coming weeks.
