The Saskatchewan RCMP is investigating after a black SUV attempted to pull a driver over near Marshall.
Officers say they were alerted about the incident at 12:45 PM on October 4th. A black SUV with a black grille and blue light in the dash attempted to stop a vehicle in the Highway 303 area near Marshall.
The driver, described as a 30-40-year-old man in a white buttoned shirt, told the person in the stopped vehicle to produce ID and get out of the car. This citizen drove off, with the suspect getting back into the SUV and turned off onto a grid road.
The RCMP is currently looking for this driver and the black SUV, noting that people should report any suspicious vehicles they see in the Highway 303 area.
The provincial detachment is also reminding people that impersonating a police officer is a crime, and there are ways to avoid falling victim to someone pretending to be an RCMP member.
At any time during a stop, the detachment says, a person pulled over can request to see an officer’s badge and ID card. Both the badge and ID card will show the same regimental number and the ID card will have a photo.
If something feels off during a traffic stop, or someone still has concerns, they’re encouraged to call the RCMP or 911 when it is safe to do so in order to verify the identity of the officer.
