Flu Shots appointments now available across Sask., will operate in tandem with COVID-19 vaccine spots

The Saskatchewan Ministry of Health says flu shot appointments are now available across the province, and clinics will also offer the COVID-19 vaccine in the same place.

Pharmacies across the province will be taking bookings now, and SHA run flu shot facilities will open on October 12th. Shots for influenza are free and open to anyone over 6 months old.

New this year, the province notes, is the option for people to get the COVID-19 shot while already receiving the flu shot. Residents will be able to get both at the same time and in the same place. If someone needs both shots, they only need one appointment, and staff are trained to give both.

Saskatchewan Health Authority COVID-19 Immunization Co-Chief Dr Tania Diener says it is safe to get the flu shot and an approved Health Canada COVID vaccine at the same time.

She notes that “no additional safety risks or adverse events following immunization have been identified by simultaneous administration of these vaccines.”

Health Minister Paul Merriman adds that this step makes access to the vaccine more convenient, furthering the path of vaccination to get the province out of the COVID-19 pandemic.

People will be able to book both vaccines on the Saskatchewan 4Flu website or by calling 1-833-SASKVAX. Alternatively, there is a list of pharmacies giving out both shots online as well too.
