At this week’s GPC session, Council learned about the progress being made at the new Wastewater Treatment Facility.
Mayor Gerald Aalbers expressed his pleasure on the visible developments at the plant, especially with the weather continuing to change.
“It’s great news that we are seeing construction moving forward at the Wastewater Treatment plant. That’s been a long time in coming. And the news we heard is it’s going to continue. Construction is going to continue on through the winter. We are going to see some more work being done.”
The new plant is being built using an Integrated Project Delivery or IPD model and is expected to be fully operational by December 1st, 2023. The funding model has federal, bi-provincial and municipal government input with an 80 million dollar price tag.
Aalbers was also pleased that so far, the project is on budget.
“It’s just great to hear that so far we are on budget. Fingers crossed. That’s one of the pieces of the IPD model was to ensure that we would be as close to budget if not better than budget, and come in under budget. That’s still a ways away. We heard from Administration that no one is making any promises yet as to the delivery date. We are on schedule to be completed on time, if not ahead.”
The GPC session also had discussion about the input of local contractors and subcontractors with Aalbers saying there was about 20 different businesses already involved.
