City ready for ole’ man winter

With Environment Canada forecasting the first snowfall of the season beginning late Tuesday evening, the City of Lloydminster is saying that systems are in place to tackle the snow.

Mayor Gerald Aalbers indicated Monday that city crews are prepping equipment to get ready to clear streets.

“We’re ensuring that we have snow plows on the equipment that needs to be mounted as those have other duties as well. We’re ensuring that  the sanding stockpiles are up to speed and stocked for the winter. I think we are as ready as we can be. Our teams have been out doing everything they can to take advantage of the good weather we have had and there will be a transitional shift once snow does arrive.”

Aalbers is also urging people to be ready to adjust their driving patterns for that first snowfall.

“I encourage everybody, that first snowfall, remember the roads are a little slippery. The asphalt might be a little warm and as that snow lands, it does create a little bit of ice. Our teams will be out sanding and salting as quick as they can, but drive with caution.”

The mayor also is encouraging people to get their winter tires on.

The Environment Canada forecast also shows day time highs staying below zero from Wednesday through to Friday.

His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
