What’s the reason this season, asks SGI

SGI is asking the question, “What’s your reason this holiday season?” This as the provincial insurer and police ramp up activities to target impaired driving over the holidays.

SGI asks everyone to consider why it’s essential to always plan a sober ride home. They note last holiday season, December 1st, 2020 to January 3rd, 2021, three people were killed, and 44 people were injured as a result of impaired driving-related collisions in Saskatchewan.

SGI says to have a conversation with loved ones about the dangers of impaired driving.

SGI is starting the conversation by sharing several video messages from notable names, including community leaders, athletes, and entertainers. The list includes reflections from Sam Corbett of the Sheepdogs, Chief Bobby Cameron, Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations as well as the mayors of Regina and Saskatoon.

They are encouraging people in making the right choice this holiday season by planning a safe ride home.

Options include:

  • arranging to have a designated driver for your group or volunteering to be one
  • taking a cab, a rideshare, or a designated driving service that brings you and your vehicle home
  • using public transit
  • staying the night.

SGI plans to roll out their videos over the holiday season on social media. The full version is available on Youtube.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
