Lloydminster vehicle owners get pat on the back from RCMP

In the early morning of Monday, March 7th, between 1:30 a.m. and 3:30 a.m., the Lloydminster RCMP received several calls advising that two individuals were seen checking for unlocked vehicles.

Officers were able to follow footprints and determine close to 200 vehicles were checked by the suspects, but only received a few reports of theft from vehicles and a single report regarding a stolen vehicle during this time. As most of the vehicles were locked and/or without visible valuables inside, minimal items were reported stolen.

“The RCMP is very pleased to see the number of vehicles entered to be significantly low and want to thank the public for doing their part by removing valuables from their vehicles and locking their doors in an effort to reduce crime,” says RCMP Constable, Grant Kirzinger.

Lloydminster RCMP is asking the public to provide information on any suspicious activity during these times in the areas of 46 Avenue to 68 Avenue along 20 Street to 28 Street, and report any items you are missing or if your vehicle was entered.

“If you live in this area and believe something was stolen from your vehicle, you are urged to report it even if it is something small you don’t think is worth reporting,” says Kirzinger.

The RCMP made an arrest of 2 individuals believed to be associated with the spree and have recovered several stolen items.

Kirzinger reports, “The investigation is ongoing and police are hoping that more reports of stolen property will be provided in order to piece things together and add additional charges for the two people who have been arrested.”
