Residents in the town of Vermilion face a property tax increase as the municipal leadership put forward the 2022 budget.
Officials say a revenue shortfall will be made up by a $115,861 increase in municipal property taxes. They give a breakdown as follows, for every:
- $2000 property tax will see a $44 change
- $3000 property tax     –    $66
- $4000 property tax     –     $88
Vermilion officials note the goal of their budgetary proposal is to maintain priority services and support financial stability while streamlining efficiencies.
They say an increase in RCMP costs will account for 50 per cent of the property tax revenue increase.
The 2022 Vermilion budget has an operating surplus of $10,371, excluding amortization with capital spending of $2,070,000.
