RCMP salary hike awaits Federal input

The city has shared some details on the new RCMP pay structure that took effect on April 1st.

The agreement between the Federal government and the RCMP will cost an additional $1.5 million to the 2022 operating budget.

The City pays for 90% of the RCMP costs for the Alberta side of Lloydminster with the Alberta government paying the remainder.

Lloydminster bears the full cost of policing on the Saskatchewan side with no contribution from the Saskatchewan government.

The new agreement has resulted in a one time back-pay covering 2017 to 2021. The city is awaiting the final invoice and estimates it to be about $2 million.

Administration is recommending that the retro pay costs be handled in a multi-year approach and federal assistance be sought to ease the burden on the city.

As MyLloydminsterNow has reported, the city has indicated that the Federal government has so far not committed to their request for assistance.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
