Duo face charges in connection to stolen firearms in Onion Lake

The Lloydminster RCMP Police Dog Services were called in as Onion Lake RCMP were investigating a break-in at a home, which resulted in charges being laid against two youths in connection to stolen firearms.

On August 19th around 4:30 p.m., Onion Lake RCMP got a report on the matter in which they believe that between 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. that day, four firearms were stolen from the residence.

Officers later arrested a 16-year-old male from the area and he faces charges of one count of break and enter and stealing a firearm.

Then the following day at about 9:15 p.m., Onion Lake RCMP got a report of an unwanted individual at a home. An investigation revealed the person was in possession of a firearm and he took off from the residence, according to police.

The Lloydminster RCMP Police Dog Services were called in and the individual was located and arrested in a nearby forested area. Officers seized the firearm, which was one of the firearms reported as stolen the previous day.

A second male youth from the area is facing charges of two counts of failure to comply with a release order, as well as one count each:

  • Breach of a youth order
  • Possession of property obtained by crime
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of an unlicensed firearm
  • Possession of a firearm obtained by the commission of an offence
  • Failure to comply with release order

The charges are yet to be proven.

The youths cannot be identified as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The police investigation is ongoing.
