Husky gas bars coming under Lloyd Co-op

Two Husky gas bars will be coming under the Lloydminster and District Co-operative family.

In making the announcement, officials indicated the deal came about as a result of Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL) purchasing 171 Husky retail fuel sites from Cenovus Energy. Lloyd Co-op will officially partner with these fuel outlets on Sept. 13.

The locations are west side in Lloydminster at 6309 – 44 Street and Maidstone.

Peter Browne, chief executive officer, says they will be supplying fuel to both locations, but don’t expect the signage to change soon.

“As for branding, we don’t foresee that happening for a while. Co-op does have extended rights to utilize the Husky branding for a period of time. The model that they will be operating in, they would be potentially the Tempo banner on those. They wouldn’t be a Co-op banner.”

Browne says this is one of the options as they get to the finer details of the acquisition. The two locations will continue to operate until any re-branding takes place.

He expressed what this looks like for the region.

“What it means is the ability to continue to add high quality Co-op fuels in the area, and the long-term strategy ultimately is the efficiencies at the refinery, like our wholesale refinery that we purchase from; ensuring that there is volume to be efficient moving forward in the future.”

Officials note the following aspects will apply to consumers:

  • My Husky Rewards members can still earn and redeem points on all applicable transactions at Husky-branded sites
  • Husky Gift Cards can still be redeemed at any Husky-branded sites as a form of payment, but can no longer be purchased
  • Co-op members will not be able to use their Co-op numbers at these new locations.
