Product spill got into stormwater system: City

Lloydminster Fire Department crews were called into action Monday evening to contain a product spill in the area of 62 Street and 49 Avenue. However, city officials say that product got into the stormwater system, but they are uncertain as to the quantity or the type of product.

“The Lloydminster Fire Department installed booms in the stormwater system to mitigate the impact of any product that may have entered the stormwater system and dammed the culvert near the wastewater treatment facility,” says Doug Rodwell, acting manager of emergency management operations. “We are confident the product has not entered any major waterway outside of city limits,” noting some of the product did enter the stormwater system.

Additionally, officials say there is no immediate threat to the public.

The local 911 dispatch reported the call at about 9:18 p.m. The Lloydminster Fire Department along with support from the Britannia Fire Department dealt with the containment. Crews remained on scene to monitor the situation.

The product spill is under investigation and has been reported to the Saskatchewan Environment and Province of Alberta.
