Saskatchewan producers wrapping up harvest 2022

The northwest region of Saskatchewan which includes Lloydminster has 94 per cent of the crop in the bin according to the provincial estimate.

For the period Sept. 27 to Oct. 3, Crop District 9B that also includes Meadow Lake, Turtleford, Pierceland and Maidstone is reporting that many producers took advantage of the dry conditions to be well ahead of the five-year average of 60 per cent.

Overall, Saskatchewan has 90 per cent of the crop in the bin, up from 81 per cent last week and well ahead of the five-year average of 82 per cent.

The extremely dry conditions are of concern and producers would like to receive rain soon and have it keep raining for multiple days, according to provincial officials.

In Crop District 9B, cropland topsoil moisture is rated as 15 per cent adequate, 62 per cent short and 23 per cent very short. Hay and pasture land topsoil moisture is rated as 13 per cent adequate, 59 per cent short and 19 per cent very short.

Preliminary harvest figures reveal that hard red spring wheat is yielding 53 bu/ac, oats 100 bu/ac, barley 74 bu/ac, flax 30 bu/ac and canola 40 bu/ac.

Ahead of the Thanksgiving weekend, producers are busy combining, drying grain and moving bales.
