Synergy scores ABEX Community Involvement award

Synergy Credit Union has brought home the ABEX award for Community Involvement following this weekend’s Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce business excellence awards in Saskatoon.

The award which was sponsored by the Saskatchewan Blue Cross saw the Lloydminster financier up against three Regina-based businesses involved in finance, construction and hospitality, as well as a media firm from Moose Jaw.

CEO Glenn Stang says they were up against strong competition and he is “over the top” at snatching the accolade.

“It puts an extra skip in your step when you are actually recognized for all the good things you do on a regular basis. This is us. This is Synergy. We donate. We sponsor. We volunteer. We get engaged in the communities that we serve because we know that when our members do well – our communities do well, so does Synergy.”

He says the Synergy team is grateful for the honour as they encourage their staff to get involved in the community and each year volunteer a week of company time in the communities they serve.

“All of these things that happen in our community – I call it that social fabric; that social network in our community and it really makes our community successful, strong and vibrant. And it attracts new talent and new people. It’s just that continuum of growth and prosperity that everybody can share in.”

Stang says the recognition puts “that fuel” in their tank going forward.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
