The Dodge the Stigma all-day dodgeball event hosted by the Lloydminster Region Health Foundation has raised just over $296,000 and counting, says CEO Stephanie Munro.
This year’s gift to health which saw 12-teams giving up their day jobs to be on the Hoop Factory court and dodge balls thrown by their opponents has left fundraisers savouring their efforts with the tally still coming in.
“We didn’t really set a goal this year. We just set out to have fun, raise funds and to help build community. I think we did all of that wrapped up into one,” says Munro.
The exertions of Tuesday Nov. 29 were aimed at supporting youth mental health programs and raising funds to buy a TIMS diagnostic machine for the local hospital.
“When we put money into the greatest needs fund, there are unexpected things that come up, that are enhancements and innovation. And so when we raise funds for the greatest need, then we have the capability to help out in those emergency situations when there’s maybe something unexpected that is needed,” says Munro.
The CEO adds they have been working with various community agencies including both school divisions to determine what’s the optimal programs for youth mental health in the community.
“So whether that’s through the school system or community-based is yet to be determined, but the money is definitely earmarked for that. We are just working very hard and collaborating with different agencies to see what is the best use and what’s the best outcomes,” says Munro.
