Dinosaur Tale to come alive at Vic Juba Community Theatre

A prehistoric tale that dates back some 230 million years is about to come to life on the Vic Juba Community Theatre stage.

The oddity of a time-warp brings two eighth-graders face to face with the beasts from the past. The family adventure plays out with a group of puppeteers and actors from the Annerin Theatricals production company.

David Sklar brings Tyrell the Raptor to life in A Dinosaur Tale. He says the spiel is set in the Badlands of Alberta.

“It’s about two school children, Lisa and Declan on a field trip in the Badlands of Alberta who accidentally end up opening a wormhole from the Jurassic period which brings a bunch of Dinos to our time period for lots of chaos, mayhem and fun.”

Sklar says the show is about 50 minutes long and romps along with Lisa and Declan trying to unravel the damage before their teacher finds out. The show has lots of sound effects and roars, but overall the puppeteer says it’s about teamwork and camaraderie.

“At the end of it, it’s about an adventure with a friend. They get to know Tyrell, and he is more like a (pet) dog, than even a dinosaur. And it’s really about coming together – working together to solve a problem and it’s really about friendship and what you can accomplish as friends.”

Tickets for the Feb. 13 shows at 4:00 and 7:00 p.m. are available on the Vic Juba Community Theatre website.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
