Britannia, Biggar, Kindersley, Loon Lake and Wilkie are on the list of 25 Saskatchewan communities to get joint funding from the province and the federal government for infrastructure projects.
While the total combined support being shared across Saskatchewan is over $19.7 million, Britannia will see a Big Gully Park upgrade that includes $76,000 from the feds, $63,327 from the province and $50,673 from the RM. The renos cover concrete picnic tables and benches, fire pits, a playground area, gazebo upgrade, a public dock and a concrete washroom.
The RM of Biggar funds will go to replace the 24-metre treated timber Palo Bridge with culverts. The federal input is $85,442, while $170,833 comes from the province and the community is putting in $256,275.
Kindersley is doing a lifecycle upgrade of the refrigeration plant at its West Central
Event Centre. The feds funding is $454,480, the province is contributing $378,695 and the RM’s portion is $303,025.
The RM of Loon Lake is getting a new 12-metre Dopko Bridge. The federal funding is $166,700, the province is adding $333,300 and the RM is paying $500,000.
The town of Wilkie is building a new outdoor swimming pool with a beach entry, water
slide and diving board. The federal input is $1,070,460, while the provincial contribution is $891,961 and the community is adding in $713,729.
The First Nations University of Canada in Regina is the largest single recipient of the federal funding with $1,863,008. Those dollars are going to new facilities at its Land-based Learning Centre that will include cabins, shower and washroom facilities, a mess hall with a
kitchen, water and wastewater infrastructure, along with a permanent sweat lodge structure and an outdoor learning centre.
