Police charge two suspects, seize illicit drugs

Two suspects are facing charges before the courts after police seized suspected illicit drugs following a traffic stop.

On the evening of April 21, Maidstone RCMP led a roadside stop on Highway 16 near Maidstone. The roadside stop was initiated for a licence, registration and sobriety check.

During their investigation, police report that the passenger was breaching previous release conditions.

Police arrested the passenger and in a subsequent search of the vehicle they report finding:

  • 3.3 kilograms of Fentanyl
  • 7 kilograms of Crystal Methamphetamine
  • 1 kilogram of Cocaine.

The driver, 20-year-old Gurpreet Singh, was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.

The passenger, 21-year-old Prince Sharma, was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and three counts of failure to comply with release conditions.

Both suspects appeared in Lloydminster provincial court on Monday April 24, 2023 and were remanded in custody.

They are to return to court on May 18.
