Elk Island National Park plan before federal parliament

The Elk Island National Park Management Plan is before the House of Commons for review.

The scenic park located about 2 hours west of Lloydminster along Highway 16 has been known to attract visitors from across Canada and internationally. It plays a role in the conservation of the American bison.

Environment officials note the updated plan outlines several strategies including:

  • Strengthening relationships with Indigenous Peoples in the spirit of Indigenous stewardship
  • Working towards ecological integrity in the park
  • Working with others in support of ecological sustainability
  • Creating connections and inspiring people
  • Responding and adapting to climate change

A review of national park plans is conducted every 10 years.
