Vermilion RCMP, while on patrol in the Town of Vermilion have recovered a vehicle that had been reported as stolen from British Columbia.
On Dec. 16, officers saw a vehicle which they deemed to be suspicious. Police investigation identified a male-suspect who had recently arrived in the reported stolen vehicle. During the investigation, police say the driver gave them a false name.
As a result of the investigation, Joel Vandecaveye, 33-years of Alix, was charged with:
- Obstruct police officer
- Fail to comply with release order
- Identity fraud
- Possession of illegal (non-taxed) cigarettes
Vandecaveye was taken before a justice of the peace and remanded in custody with the next court date set for Jan. 9, 2024, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Lloydminster.
