The City of Lloydminster’s newest council member, David Lopez has taken the oath of office and been officially sworn in at city hall.
Witnessed by family, friends, and well-wishers, the businessman notes he has already heard from some of the voting public and is ready to roll up his sleeves in matters like fiscal responsibility saying, “We need to take a look at the tax dollars and how we are spending those dollars – making sure we are responsible.”
On the matter of the proposed $3 million maintenance shop for the Lloydminster Golf and Curling Centre, Lopez says the maintenance shop is “top of mind in the community.”
“Everybody is talking about it. I think we really need to look at it as a council. We have to start going for our needs and not our wants. If we want this maintenance shop, it’s different than if we need this maintenance shop. I really feel that we need to look at the needs and not just the wants.”
Lopez said it was nice to have his whole family present for the “new beginning and venture.”
The new councillor will have an orientation session on Thursday, Feb. 22, and, his first council meeting on Feb. 26.
