Lloydminster suspect facing child luring charges

A Lloydminster man is the suspect in a child luring investigation in which police have laid charges.

Lloydminster RCMP have charged Steven Keir, 37-years with:

  • Sexual touching
  • Child luring
  • Breach of probation
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of firearm contrary to order
  • Non-compliance to a conditional sentence order

On April 16, Lloydminster RCMP executed a search warrant in the city, as part of an investigation into child luring and invitation to sexual touching. RCMP arrested the suspect and found evidence of weapon manufacturing at the home.

Police seized:

  • Computers and phones
  • 17 Hard Drives
  • 3D printer
  • 3 handguns (3D printed)
  • 1 sub-machine gun
  • 2 Assault rifles
  • Assorted 3D-printed firearm pieces

“The Lloydminster RCMP remains steadfast in our commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all members of our community,” said Cpl Christopher Byford of the Lloydminster RCMP General Investigation Section. “We will continue to implement proactive strategies, leverage technology, and collaborate with stakeholders to prevent and combat crime effectively.”

The suspect was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. He is to return to Alberta Court of Justice in Lloydminster on April 24.

Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story had incorrectly spelled the suspect’s name. This is now corrected to Keir.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
