The new rink and entertainment centre, the Cenovus Energy Hub is slowly taking shape on the east side of Lloydminster just south of the Gold Horse Casino.
PCL crews are making progress on the steel frame to house the main rink and the community arena.
“It’s pretty cool with all the cranes here and the steel frame being erected, you’re starting to see the height – and driving past, you are starting to see it in the skyline.”
Whiting notes that the mountain of clay that has been piled up from the creation of the retention pond is available for use in other projects and will be removed eventually.
Whiting notes as the eastern skyline changes to accommodate the new entertainment centre, it will be used by everyone in the region.
“From people in the community to those in surrounding areas. We are excited for it and all the uses it will have for everybody.”
The Cenovus Energy Hub is scheduled to come online in late 2025. Other amenities to come onstream later include ball diamonds, retail shops, and possibly a hotel, added Whiting.
