Saskatchewan Distance Learning Centre (Sask DLC) is teaming up with Teine Energy to develop new Oil & Gas high school courses.
Education planners say that students will learn about the importance of the oil and gas industry, gain knowledge about career opportunities available in Saskatchewan’s energy sector and local companies will receive support in building a future workforce to meet consumer demands.
Officials at Lloydminster Comprehensive will look forward to the development as they previously had a similar course which offered theory and practicals, along with two credits for students.
Teine Energy which is also lead sponsor of the Saskatchewan Summer Games in Lloydminster will work with Sask DLC to develop new online Oil and Gas 20 and 30 courses. Students will take 50 hours of online theory and 50 hours of work placement.
Teine Energy is providing $150,000 over two years for the development of the new online courses, and the coordination of student work placements.
Oil and Gas 20 will be available to students starting in Semester 2 of the 2024-25 school year, followed by Oil and Gas 30 starting in the 2025-26 school year. These courses will be available to full-time online students, as well as high school students attending local schools throughout the province.
