Public meeting to discuss Lloydminster Library on Aug. 8

The move to switch the Lloydminster Public Library from the Lakeland Region to a municipal model is to be discussed at a public meeting on Aug. 8.

Lloydminster City Council approved the move on Monday, June 24 which will see the library move away from the west-central Saskatchewan Lakeland Region to the city with a municipal model. Council allocated $30,000 to facilitate the move, but to complete the change, it will cost $154,950. The full details are contained in a report to council, concluding that with the library’s growth, a made-in-Lloydminster solution is a viable option.

Written submissions may be sent to the city by emailing the Office of the City Clerk at [email protected].

The Lakeland Region provides administration, processing, and management services to 32 libraries across west-central Saskatchewan. The growth of Lloydminster’s Library is using about 32 per cent of the region’s resources presenting a challenge to support smaller libraries, noted council.

The public meeting on Aug. 8 will be held at Servus Sports Centre from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Small Room which was previously the child-minding room.

Following the meeting and a review of the written comments, the City will apply for the boundary change to Saskatchewan’s minister of education.

Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
