On average seven people die in July due to impaired driving: SGI

Over the last five years, an average of seven people were killed in Saskatchewan and 39 people were injured from impaired driving collisions in July.

SGI is hoping to change that statistic.

“There are so many cool experiences to enjoy in Saskatchewan during the summer: the lakes, the beaches, camping, golfing, music festivals, football, baseball, barbecues, weddings, or just spending time with good friends on a patio,” said JP Cullen, chief operating officer. “We don’t want anyone to miss a single second of all that summer in Saskatchewan has to offer because they got arrested, suspended, or hurt from driving impaired.”

The auto fund is once again recommending:

  • Designate a sober driver in your group (or volunteer to DD)
  • Call or text a sober friend or family member to come get you
  • Take a taxi, bus, rideshare, or designated driving service
  • Stay the night

In urging everyone to enjoy summer safely, SGI reminds that impaired driving is 100 per cent preventable, and taking a minute to decide how you and your friends are going to get home safely can ensure that the good times continue all summer long.
