Over 200 rural libraries, including some near Lloydminster, are getting an internet speed upgrade to at least 50 megabits per second (Mbps) connection. This means they could download about 1GB of data in about three minutes.
The SaskTel – Saskatchewan Ministry of Education effort will speed things up for libraries in Lashburn, Cutknife, Hafford, Paynton, Glaslyn, Edam, Loon Lake, Maidstone, Macklin, Marshall, Marsden, Neilburg, Paradise Hill, Pierceland, St. Walburg, Shellbrook, Turtleford, and Unity are on the list.
Currently, there are 160 public libraries outside Saskatchewan’s urban centres with 10Mbps fibre CNet connections and 36 public libraries with 25Mbps.
