UPDATE: Families with loved ones at Pioneer Lodge may call 780-872-1106 for resident-related concerns. Officials ask that this line be reserved for those seeking information about specific residents. Meanwhile, Pioneer House which is the two-storey dwelling to the north was not affected by the fire at Pioneer Lodge.
Over 100 residents and staff at the Pioneer Lodge have been safely evacuated to the Archie Miller Arena after Lloydminster fire crews were called to the seniors’ home on Monday, Sep. 9.
At about 2:30 p.m., RCMP and fire crews were called to the scene on 50 Street. Police blocked off the west portion of 50 Street from 57 Avenue to the ADM corner as fire crews battled the flames.
While the structure appears intact from the outside fire investigators will now have the task of working out the cause of the fire.
Relatives are being asked to check on their loved ones who had to be bussed over with the Handi-Van and other forms of transport to the Archie Miller Arena. Despite the windy September afternoon, one senior, who was accompanied, decided to walk over to the arena noting that she would usually have a stroll on a sunny afternoon.
