Lethbridge’s Shaela Miller to play at Lloydminster’s Vic Juba, Nov. 7

Lethbridge-based, country crossover artist, Shaela Miller will be in Lloydminster to play at the Vic Juba Community Theatre in a fundraiser for the Friends of Weaver Park and Lloydminster Regional Theatre Foundation. 

The Nov. 7 concert will showcase a talent that is mixing classic country and modern themes in a raw and relatable writing style. Her influences growing up span Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, and Merle Haggard along with Depeche Mode, and The Cure just to name a few. 

“I dug into it musically and created a new take on classic country. I just felt like I was ready for something new. So, I bought a synthesizer and started to incorporate it into my songwriting. And now we are listening to the product of that which is this a pretty interesting combo of influences,” says Shaela. 

The two-hour concert with intermission will feature songs from her latest album, After The Masquerade, and her more traditional country songs. 

“When I was thinking about why I chose that analogy for that song, the comedy/tragedy mask came into my mind as just such an iconic symbol of those deep feelings of intense happiness and sadness. You can’t really feel or have one without the other. You’re never going to know what true happiness is without knowing what true sadness is.” 

Shaela was learning about the comedy and tragedy masks when she wrote After The Masquerade. The singer-songwriter sees the “juxtaposition” of opposing emotions as creating a “beautiful harmony of the two most intense feelings” – sadness and happiness. 

The concert, being a fundraiser for the Friends of Weaver Park and Lloydminster Regional Theatre Foundation, the artist shares her joy to give back. 

“It’s very important to me. I believe that if you can, you should. We as artists who have a stage – we have a microphone. We have a voice in a way that some other people don’t. We have the ability to do that in a lot of ways.”
