City removes fire ban for parks and green spaces

The City of Lloydminster has officially rescinded the fire ban that had been in place for the city’s parks and green spaces.

Recent rain has alleviated some of the risk of fire in the region. Bud Miller All Seasons Park features designated fire pits for public use, and visitors at Weaver Park Campground are also permitted to use designated fire pits within their camp sites. Park visitors are also reminded to properly extinguish smoking materials in ashtrays or designated cigarette butt receptacles.

Lloydminster residents are permitted to have backyard fire pits, but must adhere to the regulations as outlined in Bylaw 2-2008.

Other regions in our area that have revoked their fire bans include the Rural Municipalities of Britannia, Wilton, and Mervin, as well as the County of Vermilion.

Citizens are still encouraged to be cautious and check provincial sites about current advisories and restriction that are in effect, if they’re traveling in Alberta or Saskatchewan.
