Lakeland College fires basketball coach Chris King

Lakeland College is parting ways with basketball head coach Chris King.

The decision came on Thursday, Dec. 5. The statement from the College reads:

“Chris King is no longer the head coach. Work is now underway to hire an interim head coach for the team. The Rustlers resume play in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) on Jan. 17, 2025.”

The women’s team which has 34 unbeaten games over two calendar years has had to forfeit its last couple of games with players having chosen to support King amid an investigation into the former head coach.

MyLloydminsterNow has reached out to Lakeland College for further clarification. However, the statement concludes that since “this is a personnel matter, Lakeland College will not be providing additional details.”

Even with the two forfeited games or losses, the Rustlers are still tied for first in the north zone of the ACAC with The King’s University.

King is a six-time ACAC Coach of the Year and a two-time CCAA Coach of the Year.

His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
