Vermilion RCMP charge suspect for breach of conditions

Vermilion police have charged an individual for breach of conditions and possession of illicit drugs.

On Dec. 29, 2024, Vermilion RCMP did a curfew check and found the suspect to be breaching. On Jan. 4, 2025, the individual was taken into custody. Further investigation located a quantity of suspected methamphetamine.

Christian Ruston, a 30-year-old resident of the County of Vermilion River, has been charged with failure to comply with a release order and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Christian was taken before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. He is to return to the Alberta Court of Justice in Lloydminster on Jan. 14.

“Condition compliance checks are one of the initiatives we use locally that allow offenders to be held accountable to their release conditions,” said Sgt. Corey Buckingham, Vermilion RCMP Detachment Commander. “This is a good example of proactive police work to increase public safety.”
