Rosie heads to New York for prestigious show

Rosie, an Australian Shepherd is heading to New York in February to compete in the 149th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. The Lloydminster three-year-old will be in the company of over 2,500 champion dogs from the States, Canada, and around the world.

Her owner Cara Muench says there is a lot of preparation that goes into a big dog show in another country.

“Bathing, grooming, proper conditioning, medical records have to be up to date.”

Rosie will be competing in Conformation where the judge will look at structure, movement, and presentation and compare it to the ideal breed standard.

“Rosie has been competing in it since she was four months old. So, she knows her job well,” says Muench.

Rosie has a fighting spirit. She was a singleton born via C-section. She entered the world fragile and needed several days of care. With all the love and training, she is ready to bring her A-game, says Muench.

“The competition will be as high as it gets. So, we are looking forward to the challenge and try to leave a positive impression.”

This will be their first time at the show where they will compete against 27 other Australian Shepherds. Muench says going to Westminster has been a bucket list item since she was a girl. About 78 dogs will represent Canada in New York.

“We had a very successful American Kennel Club debut this past summer to achieve her AKC championship and she deserves to compete alongside the top dogs making the trip to New York.”

Rosie and her owner will fly out of Calgary for New York on Feb. 7. The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show runs Feb. 8, 10-11.

Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
