Shop local, buy Canadian: Lloyd Chamber

The Lloydminster Chamber of Commerce says, “Shop local, buy Canadian.” In its post concerning the impact of U.S President Trump’s tariffs, it notes “serious implications for Canadian industries.”

“The U.S. decision to impose a 25 per cent tariff on key goods has serious implications for industries across Canada, including right here in Lloydminster. These tariffs threaten the competitiveness of Canadian businesses by raising costs, disrupting supply chains, and burdening consumers.”

It sees the impact on Lloydminster’s agriculture, manufacturing, and energy which propel the local economy.

“These tariffs could have far-reaching effects on our trade-reliant region.”

The Chamber says it will continue to advocate for:

  • Fair trade practices and wants the U.S. and Canada to hold “constructive dialogue”
  • Support for local businesses by asking policymakers to bring measures like financial support programs and tax relief
  • Trade diversification to encourage businesses to look for new markets and not be reliant on a single buyer

The Chamber is offering the support of its resources to members as it encourages shopping local and buying Canadian products.

The Canadian Chamber of Commerce has listed cities that are most vulnerable to Trump’s tariffs with Calgary at number two and Lethbridge ranked 10 on its list.
