Carbon tax falls, gas prices down to 130.3

The first impact of the removal of the consumer carbon tax is happening at the gas pump with the Lloydminster Mobil-Superstore dropping its regular fuel to 130.3 a litre in early afternoon.

While gas prices shot up to 156.9 last week, it’s not an April Fool’s joke that the price is coming down with some 17 cents going away with the removal of the consumer carbon tax.

Some other prices as at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1:

PetroCan: Regular: 139.9

Circle K Esso-  Regular: 138.9, Diesel: 137.9

Lloyd Coop- Regular: 138.9

Canco- Regular: 135.9, Diesel: 138.5

Lloydminster UFA- Regular:131.9, Diesel: 133.8

Shell – Regular:130.9

Mobil-Superstore- Regular: 130.3, Diesel: 138.5

Prices will adjust some more as retailers factor in spring maintenance, oil price fluctuations and the next round of U.S. tariffs due on April 2.

The carbon tax levy was set at at $80 per tonne, and increased each year since it took effect in 2019.

Its removal amounts to about 17.6 cents on each litre of gasoline and roughly $4.00 for each gigajoule of natural gas burned for home heating.

His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
