New women’s basketball head coach for Lakeland College

A new head coach is on board for the Lakeland College women’s basketball program.

Todd Warnick brings 15 years of experience coaching women’s basketball in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference, or ACAC.

As head coach for the Concordia Thunder and NAIT Ooks, he led teams to several ACAC medals and a national championship with NAIT in 2022.

Alan Rogan, director of athletics at Lakeland College, says they are confident that Warnick will lead the team back to being a competitive force in the province and at the college level across the country.

“His experience along with commitment to building a strong, student-centered team, makes him the right person for our program.”

Warnick officially began his role with the Rustlers on April 1. He is a fully certified Level 3 Train to Compete coach. He holds a master’s degree in Higher Education Administration and Leadership.

“My family and I are excited to be part of Rustler Athletics and become part of the Lloydminster community,” said Warnick. “This is a tremendous opportunity to contribute to Lakeland College and Rustler Athletics which has been a benchmark of excellence for collegiate athletics in Canada.”

Warnick will be recruiting players this spring and is expected to move to the region this summer.

The new head coach comes in after last season ended abruptly with players refusing to go on when their coach was dismissed.

The college forfeited the remainder of the season and was fined by the ACAC.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
