Matriarchs celebrates women making change

Lloydminster video producers have scored another docu-series presentation with the premiere of Blyan Media’s Matriarchs on Telus Storyhive.

The locally produced documentary series highlights the strength, resilience, and voices of generational trailblazers, notes content creator, Alexa Blyan.

“The aim is to give a space to women who are making an impact in their families. they are trailblazing and making generational change. And to show the impact of that through the generations and how each story connects,” Blyan.

The six episodes of the series are showing on Telus Optik TV and will be available on the Telus Storyhive YouTube Channel in June.

Blyan wrote, directed and produced the Matriarchs project. She says the passion project depicts the women as they “honour the teachings and beliefs that have been passed down.”

On May 24, the series premiered at Lakeland College and the open event featured highlights of the series along with a bonus episode.

“On Saturday, we showed a highlight reel of the six episodes, plus a bonus episode. And we also had insights from behind the scenes from the cast and crew talking about the behind the scenes of the project.”

The locally produced film has several Lloydminster locations, including Jaycee Hill and Bud Miller Park. About 15 women were interviewed and will share their stories in the docu-series.

Along with expanding their efforts, Blyan and her team are exploring their next steps.

“We will keep growing and expanding. The hope is to continue creating a community of film in the Lloydminster region.”
